An island of contrasts
Sri Lanka sits in the Indian Ocean, just south of India. A journey here can move between coastal towns, ancient cities and the central hills without crossing a border. The appeal is the contrast: a morning among temple ruins feels completely different from an afternoon in tea country or an evening beside the sea.
For a first visit, think in regions. The Cultural Triangle suits history and archaeology, the central highlands suit scenery and walking, and the coast makes room for slower days. Trying to cover every region in one short visit usually means spending too much time on the road.

The essentials
The local currency is the Sri Lankan rupee, usually shown as LKR. Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages, while English is commonly used in visitor-facing settings. The island uses Sri Lanka Standard Time, UTC+5:30.
Tell us your arrival and departure times before choosing overnight stops. A short first transfer and a comfortable final night can make a long-haul holiday much easier, especially when travelling with children.
Build a trip that feels like you
Begin with two or three things you most want to experience: cultural sites, wildlife, walking, food or beach time. Add a realistic trip length and preferred style of accommodation. We can then join those priorities into a route with space for breaks.
Our suggested tours are starting points rather than fixed departures. You can ask for a focused southern escape, a classic island introduction or a longer journey that reaches the north or east.
